{"id":269,"date":"2018-11-15T06:19:12","date_gmt":"2018-11-15T06:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/walihaider.dx.am\/?p=269"},"modified":"2018-11-15T06:19:12","modified_gmt":"2018-11-15T06:19:12","slug":"threat-to-stop-selling-bt-cotton-seeds-irresponsible-mahyco-monsanto-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/?p=269","title":{"rendered":"THREAT TO STOP SELLING BT COTTON SEEDS IRRESPONSIBLE: MAHYCO MONSANTO"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<div class=\"entry-meta\"><span class=\"sep\">Posted on\u00a0<\/span><a title=\"10:42 am\" href=\"https:\/\/rootsforequity.noblogs.org\/threat-to-stop-selling-bt-cotton-seeds-irresponsible-mahyco-monsanto\/\" rel=\"bookmark\"><time class=\"entry-date\" datetime=\"2018-01-22T10:42:54+00:00\">January 22, 2018<\/time><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"comments-link\"><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>17 January 2017<\/p>\n<p>The war of words between Mahyco Monsanto Biotech (India) Private Limited (MMBL) and the National Seed Association of India (NSAI) continues with MMBL issuing a rebuttal to the allegation made by the latter on the<strong>\u00a0failure of Bollgard II\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>its consequences<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>MMBL has contended that it is not responsible for<strong>\u00a0development of resistance in pink bollworm\u00a0<\/strong>and its acceleration or the consequences (compensation claims). It blamed the NSAI for threatening to stop sales of Bt cotton seeds from this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour threat to advise your members to stop selling Bt cotton seeds from January 2018 is irresponsible and in complete disregard of the interests of farmers,\u201d Satyender Singh, Director of MMBL, said in the letter.<\/p>\n<p>The five-page letter gave a point-by-point rebuttal to NSAI\u2019s allegations against Monsanto and MMBL on a host of issues that included payment of compensations and efficacy of Bollgard II.<\/p>\n<p>MMBL alleged that the NSAI was trying to deflect responsibilities on development of resistance caused by the failure of its member companies in propagating prescribed practices.<\/p>\n<p>Reiterating that resistance was a natural and evolutionary adaptation of insects and pests to stress factors, he said propagation and adoption of recommended practices was a combined responsibility of all stakeholders in cotton production and not just that of the technology provider.<\/p>\n<p>Rejecting the claim that it kept mum on the growing resistance, he said both the regulator and the seed firms had been informed about the incidence.<\/p>\n<p>The firm, which sub-licences it to Indian seed companies, also wrote to Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers\u2019 Welfare, explaining to him about the fallacies in the NSAI allegations.<\/p>\n<p>The NSAI reiterated its threat on stoppage of seed sales. \u201cWe make it clear that until and unless there is clarity on the role and responsibility, there is no question of selling Bt cotton seeds,\u201d Kalyan B Goswami, Director-General of NSAI, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou accept that resistance is natural and evolutionary but go on charging trait value for the technology despite its failure,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the resistance was not restricted to only a few areas as claimed by the firm. \u201cThe regulatory authorities have confirmed that BGII failure was observed in more than 90 per cent of the cotton growing area in the country,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/m.thehindubusinessline.com\/economy\/agri-business\/threat-to-stop-selling-bt-cotton-seeds-irresponsible-mahyco-monsanto\/article10038022.ece\">http:\/\/m.thehindubusinessline.com\/economy\/agri-business\/threat-to-stop-selling-bt-cotton-seeds-irresponsible-mahyco-monsanto\/article10038022.ece<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Posted on\u00a0January 22, 2018 17 January 2017 The war of words between Mahyco Monsanto Biotech (India) Private Limited (MMBL) and&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-269","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-corporate-agriculture"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/269","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=269"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/269\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=269"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=269"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/rootsforequity.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=269"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
